This is a course I gave at the University of Amsterdam for the M.Sc. in Astronomy & Astrophysics in the year 2010-2011. My T.A. was Salome Dibi.
The textbook used was Shapiro & Teukolsky “Black Holes, White Dwarfs and Neutron Stars”. I wrote this Syllabus to complement the lectures with fresher material and some extra notes. The syllabus is not completely original since several parts are taken from these sources:
- Accretion Power in Astrophysics (Frank, King & Rane)
- Binary and Millisecond Pulsars (D. Lorimer)
- Millisecond Oscillations in X-Ray Binaries (M. van der Klis)
- Compact Stars (Glendenning N.K.)
Here you can find all slides used in the course (12-weeks): All Slides
Here some clarifications on the meaning of bulk energy of nuclear matter.
